I need help. I need proposals. I have many different projects I need help with and I need someone who is willing to help for the right price. I have a lot of experience and I am happy to pay well for quality services.
This text is asking for proposals from 3d printing and laser cutting companies who want to work with me. The details of the project are in an attached.pdf file.
I choose acrylic glass because it's easy to get, it's cheap, and it's a great material for laser cutting. If you've ever shopped at the mall you may have seen signage made of acrylic glass. It's commonly used for safety signs and shop fronts because it breaks down static charges and is easy to write on with marker pens.
I like the way it feels in my hands too, it's a little bit thicker than traditional glass but it has a similar weight. It's also scratch resistant so if I drop it on the floor it won't shatter the way regular glass would. It's a great material for laser cuts because it's relatively easy to obtain and it doesn't absorb laser energy like most other materials do. It's also extremely durable and can be easily cleaned if it does get dirty during production.
This project wants to explore the potential of using 3d printing and laser cutting to make signs and other assorted graphics for shops and malls. Before I get into the specifics of the project let's discuss the brief a bit. It's fairly well-written and organized and it gives the reader a good idea of what to expect. Keep reading if this sounds good but don't forget about the proposals that are coming your way.
I need at least three 3d printed signs made from acrylic glass. The signs should be about 2.5 meters in height and width. The space above the signs should be filled with text. I also need the signs to be placed on a wooden frame so they can be hung on the wall for display. The text above the signs should be no more than 4-5 feet tall. The proposal should include the following (at least):
Here's where things get interesting. This part of the proposal should include a detailed description of what the product will be, preferably with some illustrations. If you haven't kept up with technology in the past 10 years or so you may not know what a PDF is, or at least what it isn't. If you're still using paper documents you'll need to consider what format you want to use for your proposal. If you've been doing your research online you already know what a PDF is and you might even have one sitting somewhere on your hard drive. If you don't have a PDF on hand you can easily find one online to use as a template. Let's get to the point, shall we?
Laser cutting acrylic is the process of engraving, cutting, or etching an image onto acrylic glass with a laser. The operation is fairly simple, you just put the piece of acrylic onto the table and use the laser to cut the desired image into the piece. The only real difference between regular laser cutting and engraving the acrylic is the intensity of the laser. Engraving requires a higher level of laser power, otherwise you could just cut the piece of acrylic with a normal laser. This is not entirely true, you could use a low powered laser and engrave the piece if you wanted to. It's just that it requires more advanced technique and a different kind of software to do it right. The software for engraving isn't always free either but it's definitely worth it.
The benefits of laser cutting acrylic are numerous. First of all, it's relatively easy to learn; all you need is some basic computer skills and a little bit of practice. You can also download free software from the internet to help with the process. The size of the cuts you can make with a laser are virtually unlimited, you can cut through almost any kind of material. The only real downside is that you can't make certain shapes with a laser, for example, you can't cut a rectangle with a laser, you can only do round or square cuts. Another issue is dust created during the cutting process, it's very easy to sweep away but it may also cause problems if it's not removed promptly. Finally, the cut made with a laser is permanent and it cannot be easily reversed if you do want to change something about the design. If any of this sounds good but you're still waiting for someone to offer you a proposal, don't worry. Be sure to check out the other companies' proposals as well, there may be one that suits you perfectly!
Another way of getting glass for laser cutting is to 3d print it. This is a relatively new development in the world of manufacturing and it's extremely useful when you need to cut specific areas of glass and leave the rest undisturbed. The process is called Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and it's also known as SLA (Selective Laser Ablation). I chose FDM because it's one of the most commonly used 3d printing technologies and it's fairly simple to understand and follow. The only downside is that it's a lot of work; you need to do a lot of testing to ensure the quality of the final product. If what you're looking for is an easy way to get glass for laser cuts without having to find someone who specializes in it or order it online, FDM is the way to go. However, if you want an absolutely flawless product, you'll need to go with the more expensive and time-consuming technique known as VDM (Vacuum Deposition Modeling). When it comes to 3d printing products that involve glass, you should know that VDM is the way to go. It's also a good idea to ask the printing company about any discounts they might offer, it's not always the case but it's generally a good idea to ask.
Another way of getting graphics and signs made of glass is to use a laser to etch or engrave the image onto the surface. The only difference between engraving and laser etching is the intensity of the laser. In engraving, you will use a low-intensity laser to carefully etch or mark the surface. In laser etching, you will use a high-intensity laser to quickly etch or mark the surface. The downside of using a low-intensity laser is that it will require more time to etch or engrave the desired image, the opposite is true for high-intensity lasers. The main advantage of using a high-intensity laser is that you can quickly and easily engrave or etch almost any image. It also requires less training to use than other methods. The downside is that it's somewhat more expensive than using a low-intensity laser. If you've been waiting for someone to offer you a proposal regarding the production of a product that involves laser cutting and you don't have any experience in using a laser, this might be the method for you. Just make sure you practice first to get the hang of it.
There are numerous companies that offer laser-cutting services. Some of them take a little bit of engineering knowledge to get the best results but for the most part, it's simply a matter of putting in the time to learn. Keep in mind that this is a fairly complicated process and if you choose this option make sure that you have the necessary equipment to do it right.
